CBGC Scholarship Program Policy

The Cheverly Boys and Girls Club (CBGC) shall establish and fund an annual scholarship to be awarded by the CBGC Board of Directors (“Board”) to a deserving individual or individuals.  A vote to authorize this scholarship must be taken annually at the at or before the March Board meeting, with consideration given to availability of funds and other factors impacting the ability of CBGC to fund and distribute scholarship funds.  The Board shall also determine the amount available for that given year at the same meeting.

 

Purpose

CBGC shall provide financial assistance to an individual(s) who has demonstrated a consistent and dedicated commitment to furthering the mission of the Cheverly Boys and Girls Club through volunteer work, training, and giving back to the younger members of the Club throughout their high school years.

 

Title

The scholarship shall hereby be named the Luanne Vendemia Smith Scholarship.

 

Eligibility

Those attending any post-secondary education institution at any point in that calendar year will be eligible.  Eligible institutions include universities, colleges, technical schools, trade and/or vocational institutions.  

 

Selection Process

Applicants shall complete a one-page form, attached here.  Upon the deadline set each year at their March meeting, the Board shall review all applications and vote on the applicant(s) who shall be awarded that year’s scholarship(s).

 

Priority shall be given to graduating high school seniors as they enter their first year at an approved institution.  If there are no (or insufficient number of) applicants who are graduating that year deemed by the Board as appropriate recipients of that year’s awards, then applicants entering post-freshman years in any post-secondary education institution may be considered, including those who have previously been awarded CBGC scholarships.

 

Scholarship Amount

The Board shall determine the amount of money, if any, is available for the scholarship program at or before the March Board of Directors Meeting each year.

 

Distribution

The scholarship funds shall be distributed directly to recipients no later than August 1st of the year in which the scholarship was awarded.  This is conditioned on the awardee providing proof to the CBGC Board that they are enrolled for the Fall Semester, or have otherwise attended a post-secondary institution that calendar year.
